One of the best moving decisions you can make is to hire professional movers. Especially in winter. At Kary Movers we have many winters’ worth of moving experience. This experience has taught us to pay attention to the forecast for moving day. Then expect the unexpected. It seems a weather forecast is usually about fifty percent accurate at best. So, we’re always prepared for the worst winter can throw at us. That’s right, bring it on!
Who’s prepared? We are!
Here’s what’s obvious on an Edmonton commute on a particularly foul-weather day. Not every driver is prepared for the snow or ice. This leaves us a little incredulous, since this is Edmonton, a city of winter weather champions. Or should be. We like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, however– and assume that those slip-slider drivers have moved from some place on the planet that has never experienced snow.
Rest assured, at Kary Movers, we’re ready for the worst snow and ice conditions and coldest temperatures. For us, it’s not just about getting your stuff from point A to point B without getting our trucks stuck in the snow. It’s about packing and transporting all possessions safely and soundly. However, there are some things you can do to make your life easier on moving day. They’ll help us, too.
Safe, clean and dry
Make sure to shovel your sidewalks, driveway, and any other pathways that our movers might need to use. We don’t like the sound of breaking dishes on the driveway any more than you do– especially when a good shoveling and ice-melter or salt could have prevented it. Even with a good shoveling, snow and moisture is bound to get tracked inside. This can, of course make a make a mess of your floors, especially carpet. Tape down a few pieces of heavy cardboard or plastic sheeting in high traffic areas.
What are you wearing?
We never expected to give moving day fashion tips. And we’re not about to start. We’re simply offering some practical advice to help you to avoid alternating between chills and sweats in the midst of your move. It’s called the layered look– and if you want to make good fashion out of that, be our guest!
You’ll likely be in and out of your old residence and new one many times on the same day– with perhaps a few extra stops along the way. So, make sure you’re dressed for moving day success. Your biggest heavy winter coat is not what you want to wear on moving day. It’s bound to get in the way. Dressing in layers will help you stay warm without being as bulky. And you can add and shed as needed.
Don’t forget the coffee and hot chocolate
Almost everyone will be craving something warm to drink on moving day. Whatever the weather, it’s smart to pack you coffee maker and supplies last so that you can make coffee for you and the crew. If you really want to make everyone happy, keep your slow cooker out, too. ,You can use it to brew hot chocolate or apple cider.
